Caroline Salem’s Clarence Mews Studio

Vibrant, warm, secluded, calm and open, a home for your performance making. This oasis of privacy enables you to step into a deeply focused way of working. Meanwhile, meetings with other artists prevent you from becoming isolated within this process. In these groups you will be in control of how you open up your work to others and how you might invite responses. Programmes are facilitated by experienced artist and mentor Caroline Salem. One to one creative support is also available.

The h8.4 x 7.6m studio, designed by Moving Architecture, has a double height glazed wall providing excellent natural light and access to a private courtyard garden. 21 years on, the wonderful floor keeps springing, a testament to the design innovation of the late Tim Heale. The ceiling is a mono-pitch rising from 3m to 6.5m toward the large windows with rigpoints fixed across the space for aerial practice, the heightest 5.4m and the midpoint 3.7m

There is a good and well tuned, robust and moveable piano ( similar to those school pianos from the 1970s). There is a sound system with phono connection for laptops and some phones as well as a single high quality portable blue tooth speaker.

You have sole use of first floor kitchenette, bathroom, shower and a small reference library, so indulge – break for a coffee and a read.
